Rony Barrak — روني براك

Internationally renowned Lebanese percussionist and composer *Rony Barrak* held his Darbouka (Middle Eastern tabla) at the tender age of four and began playing it intuitively. Led by early self-confidence, he made his first TV performance at the age of seven and then proceeded to improve his skills through school and family performances.

At the age of seventeen, Rony distinguished himself in the world of music by winning the Gold Medal in "Studio El Fan" (1988) broadcasted on LBCI television for talented young musicians in Lebanon and the Middle East.He moved to London in 1990 where he studied orchestral percussion and drum kit at the "Guildhall School of Music and Drama" and later taught Middle Eastern Percussion at "Trinity College of Music".

Throughout this period, Rony played and composed his own fusion style—a colorful blend of Arabic, Latin, Jazz, funk, New Age and chill-out. In addition to being the world's leading Darbouka player, he assembled his own unique percussion set. He performed with many international renowned artists such as: Sarah Brightman, Vanessa Mae, Fairuz, Ziad Rahbani, and many other artists.

He incorporated into his performances fascinating instruments such as car parts, demonstrating an uncanny ability to create rare, exciting combinations out of found objects. He released his first album "Aramba" in 1999, his second album in 2005 "Karizma" with Michel Fadel and finally in 2010 "Darbouka City" distributed and published by EMI Records music.

He received many international and local awards: Honorary Citizen of the City Dearborn Michigan-USA (2005), Appreciation award by the Ambassador of Lebanon-Buenos Aires-Argentina (2010), Appreciation award by the Juventudo de la uniõn cultural Argentino-Libanesa (2010), and finally an Appreciation award by the president of Saint George Hospital (2010).

*روني باراك* عازف لبناني شهير، بدأت موهبته تتفتح في سن السابعة من عمره بتشجيع من الأهل والمدرسة، في سن السابعة عشرة من عمره نال الميدالية الذهبية في برنامج "استديو الفن" عبر شاشة "المؤسسة اللبنانية للإرسال" وتميّز خلال البرنامج بموهبته الفذّة. عام 1990 إنتقل إلى لندن حيث أكمل دراسته في مدرسة "غيلد هول" للموسيقى والدراما، ثم قام بالتعليم في كلية "ترتني" للموسيقى وقدّم العديد من العروض إلى جانب العديد من الموسيقيين. تضمنت هذه العروض الموسيقى الكلاسيكية والجاز والإيقاعات اللاتينية.

شارك خلال مسيرته الفنية العديد من الفنانين العالميين في جولاتهم الموسيقية منهم: سارة برايتمان في 110 جولة منذ عام 2004، فانيسا ماي، فيروز، زياد الرحباني، ريتشارد جاليانو وغيرهم من الفنانين. يتميز في عزفه على آلة الدرابوكا حيث يقوم بإستعمال قطع غيار سيارات مما يدل على قدرته على خلق تركيبات إيقاعية متناغمة. أنتج ألبومه الأول عام 1999 بعنوان "أرامبا" والألبوم الثاني "كاريزما" مع ميشال فاضل عام 2005، وقامت بتوزيعها شركة EMI، ثم قدّم ألبومه الجديد "دارابوكا" الذي صدر عام 2010 والذي أنتجه روني وقامت بتوزيعه الشركة عينها.

حصل على العديد من الجوائز عام 2010 منها: جائزة المواطنة الشرفية لمدينة ديربورن ولاية ميشيغن الولايات المتحدة الأميركية، جائزة تقدير من سفير لبنان في بيونس آيرس الأرجنتين، جائزة تقديرية من قبل الإتحاد اللبناني الأرجانتيني للثقافة وجائزة تقديرية من قبل مستشفى سان جورج في لبنان.
